Azizbek Ashurov Attends SDCC-AP Steering Committee Meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal
Azizbek Ashurov, Executive Director of FVLWB and a member of the Steering Committee of the Statelessness and Dignified Citizenship Coalition – Asia Pacific (SDCC-AP), attended the coalition’s steering committee meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 30 September to 3 October 2024.
The meeting resulted in the review and adoption of the SDCC-AP’s draft Strategic Plan for 2024-2027. The plan outlines both short- and long-term objectives aimed at realising the coalition’s mission to foster regional collaboration in addressing statelessness and promoting equal nationality and dignified citizenship. With this strategic roadmap, the coalition will prioritise actions, establish timelines, and allocate resources to ensure efficient implementation of its initiatives. Key approaches include peer learning, solidarity building, capacity strengthening, facilitating member connections, mainstreaming statelessness, and providing responsive support to members on an ad hoc basis.
Launched on 26 February 2024, the SDCC-AP represents a significant regional effort to combat statelessness and advocate for dignified citizenship throughout the Asia Pacific region. The coalition was established to address issues of statelessness and promote equal rights across the region.
The SDCC-AP Steering Committee, of which Azizbek Ashurov is a member, consists of seven members representing all five sub-regions of Asia Pacific. Formed in February 2024, the committee holds a two-year mandate from the coalition’s launch date.
